The ground-satellite communications are expensive yet highly significant for the success of a space mission and to envisage its end-of-life by continuously monitoring its health and all sub-systems. Moreover, we learnt about SDR technology, satellite communications, APT transmissions, and how to build an antenna and a RF filter. We received good quality images from NOAA satellites using a double cross antenna, a 137-MHz band-pass filter and a low noise RF amplifier. To achieve this objective, our tasks involved the design and assembly of an antenna, a band pass filter, an amplifier and the proper setup and configuration of a SDR receiver, as well has the understanding of the APT image decoding techniques. The main objective of this project was the development of the hardware and software required to receive APT images from NOAA satellites. Nowadays, because of the recent developments in microcomputers and signal processing, it is now possible for even a small institution to have its own station able to receive images from certain meteorological satellites such as NOAA satellites, and at affordable costs. At the beginning, the operation of building a reception station required considerable means, and only specialized organizations had access to these techniques. The techniques for the reception of images from weather satellites have quickly evolved in the last decade.
